Making Love & Babies

Making Love & Babies is a warm and gentle book about natural conception. It is written for all couples who wish to conceive but especially those couples who have trouble conceiving but who (probably) don't have an underlying medical problem.

In her NH&MRC research study whose 'colloquial' title was the "PALS: Pregnancy & Lifestyle Study", Dr Judy Ford and her team of researchers undertook a study of 1,000 normal South Australian couples who were planning a family. This is the largest study of natural human fertility ever to be conducted anywhere in the world. There were no interventions but there was careful monitoring and all pregnancies and attempted pregnancies were carefully documented.

Many couples became pregnant immediately and some took longer. Unsurpisingly, some couples miscarried and others discovered that they were infertile. All miscarriages were carefully studied and the researchers were able to identify most of the causes for miscarriage. However, many cases of infertility were not explained and this led Dr Judy to talk with couples about their lives and lifestyles in order to uncover the possible cause(s) of their problems. She discovered that many infertile couples had problems that could be overcome by changes in various aspects of their lives and lifestyles.

Years of counselling infertile couples led to this book and even those who do still need help from IVF or similar, benefit greatly from reading this book and following its practical and 'enjoyable' advice.
